At Tolaga Bay you can walk down the longest pier in New Zealand (660m). The pier was built between 1926 and 1929 to enable ships to unload in all tides. It makes an excellent half hour stroll – bring your fishing gear and your camera. Local charter boats can take you fishing for tuna, groper, snapper, terakihi, bluenose and kingfish. It's a pleasant half hour stroll along the pier, with good fishing off the sides, offering lovely views back at the coastline. Currenly the Pier is in need of restoration, and the local community is looking for support.
