Taranaki is a region in the west of New Zealand's North Island. It is named for the region's main geographical feature, Mount Taranaki. State Highway 45, also called The surf Highway, runs along the coast of Taranaki, winding through some of New Zealand's best surf beaches. This region is also known for its black sand beaches and high cliffs ends.
